It’s hard to believe that the first trimester has been completed and we’re already four weeks into the second trimester. Mr. Achtziger and I have visited each classroom multiple times, and are pleased to report that we have observed high levels of learning and the common core standards (Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards) are being taught. It’s never too early to make a donation that can be claimed when you file your 2013 State tax return.
Did you know that Arizona law allows taxpayers to receive a tax credit of up to $200 for individual filers and up to $400 for married filers for donations made to SUSD schools? You can claim the tax credit when filing your 2013 Arizona State Income Tax return.

These Field Trips came to us: Cowboy Gary, Reptile Man, Dreams Come True Petting Zoo, Arizona Science Center and Scott Sorenson’s Mountain Man
We participated in the: SUSD Honor Band and Orchestra Festivals
We had Teacher Advisors for: Morning Cub Announcements and Student Government
We had organized lunchtime recess activities provided by: The Boys and Girls Club

Just a reminder that on Wednesday, December 18th students will be released at 12:15 pm for teacher inservice. Unless enrolled in Kids Club, all students must leave campus at 12:15 pm.
STUGO Food Drive
DCES Student Government is sponsoring a food drive that begins on December 2 and runs through December 11. The food that we collect will go to support St. Mary’s Food Bank. Students can start dropping off their cans in their coves on December 2nd. Thank you to the DCES community for your generosity and caring.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Round-up
Do you have a child that will begin Kindergarten in August 2014? If so, please reserve Friday, January 10th, 9:30-10:30 am for DCES' Kindergarten Round-Up. The event, for parents and incoming kindergarten students, is a great opportunity to learn about Kindergarten at DCES.
Do you have a child that you would like to attend our Pre-Kindergarten 4 year old program? This event, for parents and incoming pre-kindergarten students, is scheduled for Friday, January 10th, 10:00-10:30 am.
Please RSVP via e-mail email@example.com with your name, your child's name and the program you will be attending by Tuesday, January 7th.
If your child will be absent for any reason, please call the Desert Canyon Attendance Line (480-484-1700 press 3) before 9:30 am. Your call will be recorded. Please give your child's name, the name of the child's teacher, and the reason for the absence (i.e. illness or personal). To ensure each child's safety, if we do not hear from you, we will call to check on absences.
